Project achieves significant reduction in the use of antipsychotics in dementia

Results from a study presented at the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference (22 – 28th July 2016, ON, Canada) have highlighted a successful concept for reducing the utilization of antipsychotic medicines in dementia patients.

Despite much advice suggesting that behavioral and psychological symptoms in dementia patients are best treated with nonpharmacologic interventions, approximately 25% of patients are estimated to receive these medications when in long-term nursing facilities.
