Newly identified serum biomarker could improve diagnosis of neuroinflammation

Researchers from Mayo Clinic (MN, USA) have identified a new biomarker for autoimmune meningoencephalomyelitis, an inflammatory disorder of the nervous system. This biomarker is an astrocyte-specific autoantibody present in the cerebrospinal fluid and serum of sufferers of this form of neuroinflammation. The findings were recently published in JAMA Neurology.
