Vitamin A deficiency in the womb: a cause of Alzheimer’s later on in life?

Recent findings published in Acta Neuropathologica have indicated that the likelihood of developing Alzheimer’s disease (AD) in later life may be increased by low levels of vitamin A whilst in the womb. Studies on genetically engineered mice demonstrated that mice deficient in vitamin A before birth exhibited poorer cognitive skills after birth compared to subjects fed a normal diet.
